Allegheny Mountain Information
The Allegheny Mountains are a part of the Appalachian Mountain Range and are some of the oldest Mountains in the world. Woodland wildlife like foxes, deer, turkey, hawks, owls, and even black bears and coyotes live here.
For the outdoor sports enthusiast, the region has become a 4-season mountain top playground for mountain bikers, kayakers, hikers, campers, fishermen, hunters, and, in the winter, skiers, snowboarders, snowmobilers and even dog sledders. Located between the modest cities of Morgantown, WV and Cumberland, MD, the area is dotted with small towns featuring Appalachian crafts, Amish communities and three recreational lakes (Cheat Lake, Yough Lake and Deep Creek Lake). It’s a perfect place to have a weekend retreat from many metropolitan areas including: Baltimore, Washington D.C., Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cleveland, and even New York City. There are thousands of acres of public land to explore and hundreds of miles of scenic highways and waterways to enjoy.
